Royal Concourse Cebu City

Cebu Tour Day 1 – Royal Concourse

Royal Concourse was not in the “must eat places” in my Cebu itinerary but since our schedule went awry due to a sudden hospital visit, I had to make an impromptu decision.  My nephew was confined at Perpetual Succour Hospital near Gorordo Ave. and the nearest restaurant that I saw was Royal Concourse.  It offers buffet lunch for only P208.

Facade of Royal Concourse.  Don’t let it deceive you.

Frankly, it was a mistake going there.  It was like an enormous school cafeteria with people lining up and piling their plates with food which they couldn’t finish. The selection would have been good if only the more popular ones did not disappear the moment they were placed in the chafing dish.  In fact, at the Crispy Pata and Grilled Meat corner, the people couldn’t even wait for their turn with the tongs that they just got pieces of the delectable meat with their bare hands!

Lunch time crowd.  Long table are shared by customers.

Royal Concourse also had my favorite ebi tempura but I wasn’t able to snatch even a piece.  The kitchen couldn’t cope with the hordes of people ready to attack like a swarm of bees. There was sushi too but again, the serving plate was already empty when I got there.  I saw empty plates too of the popular Christmas fare puto bungbong but nope, they didn’t replenish it anymore.

Nothing left.

There was pancit canton, kare-kare, fish in sweet and sour sauce, vegetables, cuttlefish, etc.

There was a salad station and  bulalo (beef shank soup) but we didn’t see them until we were about to leave the place.

Although my family seemed to have enjoyed their meal, I only got this:

Young corn, pancit canton, cuttlefish (I don’t think it’s fresh) and nido soup.

Since I was not happy with my main course, I turned my attention to dessert instead. The pineapple squares were soft and delicious. The shells cooked in sweet and sour sauce was also addicting.  My first time to eat them and I couldn’t get enough.

Unlimited juice though it was just like colored water with a bit of artificial flavoring.

Generally, the food was good, well, if you can get your share.  It was supposed to be a no-left over eatery but no one was around to check if the policy is being heeded.  Btw, payment is made by the door.
